Answer: We show unity in diversity when we celebrate national festivals or rejoice in victories that bring us all together, such as winning a cricket or a football match. People from different cultures, traditions and languages come together and celebrate with happiness and gratitude.

3. Answer the following questions:

a) What examples are given in the lesson to show India's diversity?

Answer: Our beloved country, India, is truly a land of colours and contrasts. From the majestic snow-capped Himalayas in the north to the serene coconut-fringed shores of the south, from the golden sands of the western deserts to the lush green hills and valleys of the east, every corner of India tells its own story. Every state is a world in itself, with its unique language, attire, art, music, and cuisine.

b) How is a rainbow used as a symbol in the passage?

Answer: Think of a rainbow. Its beauty comes not from a single colour, but from the harmony of many. Each colour adds to its splendour. Similarly, every person, every culture, language, or belief adds richness to our shared human experience.

c) What does the phrase 'unity in diversity' mean in the context of the passage?

Answer: Despite its immense diversity, we stand united as one nation. This is especially when we celebrate national festivals or rejoice in victories that bring us all together.

d) How does strength come from togetherness?

Answer: Strength does not come from isolation; real strength blossoms in togetherness. When we respect, support and love one another, we become unstoppable.
e) How can you promote 'unity in diversity' in your school?

Answer: I can promote unity in diversity in my school through small acts like a smile, a kind gesture, or even greeting someone in their language, because these can bridge divides and create bonds that last a lifetime.

f) If you notice people being mocked for their language or culture, how would you respond to it?

Answer: I would respond by remembering that true humanity lies in acceptance. Such behaviour only creates distance and hurts people, and there is space for everyone under the same sky.

ii. Do you think that in both situations, the students and the community people will be able to foster the values of unity and respect for diversity?
